da casino: Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen has launched a scathing attack on Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone following Liverpool’s exit from the UEFA Champions League.
The side from the Spanish capital held firm against Jurgen Klopp’s men – who had 34 shots on the night – to force extra-time at Anfield, where they then capitalised on a mistake from Adrian to progress into the quarter-finals.
Atletico glovesman Jan Oblak made a huge nine saves alone, almost single-handedly keeping his side in the tie, but Simeone has come in for criticism from Owen, The Athletic’s James Pearce and even Klopp for his approach to the game – the German said that the Argentine doesn’t play ‘proper football’.
While that is nonsense – Simeone oversaw wins in both legs of the tie, so he and Atletico deservedly progressed – former Liverpool striker Owen has launched an attack on the Spaniard’s methods.
