da dobrowin: As reported by Ghana Soccernet, Everton are looking at on-loan Chelsea defender Abdul Baba Rahman as a possible long-term replacement for Leighton Baines.
What’s the word?
da lvbet: The transfer rumours around Everton have been numerous recently and the list of players linked with the Goodison Park side continues to lengthen.
Ghana Soccernet report that Baba Rahman, who didn’t have the best of seasons in a Chelsea shirt last year, is a target for Ronald Koeman next summer with the Dutchman seeing the left-back as a potential long-term replacement for 31-year old Leighton Baines.
Currently on loan at Schalke in the Bundesliga, Baba Rahman is still considered one of Europe’s brightest prospects in the position and Everton could face competition from the German side for his signature come the end of his loan this season.
What went wrong at Chelsea?
Baba Rahman joined Chelsea for around £14m with add-ons potentially bringing the fee beyond £20m, so had a lot of expectation on his shoulders. He did end up making 23 appearances for the club but only 15 in the Premier League.
Not favoured by incoming boss Antonio Conte, there was no room for him to get a regular game at Stamford Bridge and at just 22-years-of-age, first-team football is a priority in his development.
Having more luck in Germany, he’s helped Schalke to seven clean sheets this term with perhaps the highlight of his season coming when he scored a late goal in the Europa League to give his team an away win over Nice.
The chance to join Everton would offer him a second chance at Premier League football and working under Koeman, who has a long history of developing young talent, could be the perfect match for both parties.
