da jogodeouro: With the new Premier League season little more than a month away fans up and down the country are beginning to pay more and more attention to the transfer stories splashed across the back pages.
da fezbet: Liverpool fans are no different. Jurgen Klopp is setting out on his first full season in charge of the Reds as he looks to build a side that can adopt his playing style as well as improve on the eighth place and the two cup final losses of last year.
The German has already brought in Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, Marko Grujic and Loris Karius with the latter two demonstrating his knowledge of the market – plucking two players out that relatively few had heard of.
Before the window slams shut surely there’ll be more new faces training at Melwood, so here are five unknown stars Liverpool should have a look at this summer…
Joaquin Correa
Correa left his home country of Argentina in 2014 to sign for Serie A side Sampdoria but it could be only a matter of time before he moves on.
The former Estudiantes man is an attacking midfielder but is also equally adept at playing on the left wing – a position Liverpool are lacking in – whilst he is also set to represent his country at this year’s Olympics in Brazil, one to watch in that tournament.
Bjorn Engels
Belgium have a knack, all of a sudden, of producing top defenders. Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are all Premier League mainstays and Engels will be hoping he can follow in their footsteps.
He’s won the Belgian league and cup in his time with Club Brugge and with Liverpool’s centre half positions far from solidified the Reds must be looking for good options – Engels could be one.
Felix Passlack
Passlack is working his way through both the Dortmund and Germany set ups, the latter for whom he scored seven goals in 20 games at under 17 level – not bad for a right back turned midfielder.
The diminutive German is only 18 but he’s clearly on course to break into the Dortmund team sooner rather than later and when he does his stock will soar meaning the Reds, if they want him, need to act quickly.
Derlis Gonzalez
Gonzalez is only 22 but he’s certainly gained a lot of experience. Starting his career in Paraguay he’s also spent time at Benfica and Basel and now finds himself at Dynamo Kiev, picking up both a Swiss and Ukrainian championship along the way.
He can play down both flanks or off of the striker and with his knowledge of football on the continent would come as a real asset to the Reds.
Marko Pjaca
Pjaca looks set to be the latest in the long line of Croatian players that graduate from Dinamo Zagreb. The midfielder has played for his country at every level, including the senior side which he has scored for.
He actually spent some time away from Dinamo in his formative years before the club took him back in and he’s gone on to win both the Croatian league and cup twice apiece.
He’s the kind of player Jurgen Klopp likes so it makes sense for the Reds to go for him.
