Former Charlton boss Chris Powell is the latest person to criticise Rangers’ Joe Aribo for making a switch to Ibrox this summer, but believes he has the talent to be a big success in Scotland, as reported by News Shopper.
What’s he said?
In the days after his move to Glasgow, current Addicks boss Lee Bowyer was outspoken with his views that Aribo should have stayed in English football if he wants to one day play at Premier League level.
Powell also believes that to be the case, but reckons that the new Gers midfielder does have the talent to shine for Steven Gerrard’s side.

As quoted by News Shopper, he said:
“He’ll do well in Scotland for sure. He’s got the talent but I’m not too sure he should’ve gone, in my personal opinion.
“I think he should’ve stayed at Charlton or maybe looked at one or two other options but it’s his decision.
“I think for a player like him to be playing at Championship level, I think he would’ve alerted a lot more teams.
“Hopefully he’ll go to Rangers and play, that’s the most important thing for a young player.
“It’s disappointing I’m sure for many Charlton fans and especially Lee as manager.
“He’s lost a real talent, but they’ll produce someone else because Charlton always do at academy level. Joe’s a real talent and I think he’ll definitely prove that in Scotland.”
Promising start
Aribo has already made his competitive debut for the club, coming off the bench in a 4-0 thrashing of St. Joseph’s in UEFA Europa League qualifying on Tuesday.
It was a promising start to his Rangers career, showing some good touches, linking up well with teammates and even earning praise from BBC pundits and supporters.
If he can continue to impress it won’t be long until he is a firm part of Gerrard’s starting eleven plans, getting the opportunity to do what Powell expects him to.
