da realsbet: Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos will be suspended for this weekend’s Scottish Premiership clash with bottom club Dundee having picked up his third red card of the season during Wednesday night’s defeat to Aberdeen at Ibrox.
Despite falling 1-0 behind, the hosts looked to have the ideal opportunity to make Dons man Sam Cosgrove pay for his first-half dismissal, but they failed to do that and his Colombian opponent saw red instead in the 64th-minute to level things up.
Manager Steven Gerrard now has to decide who plays up top at Dens Park on Sunday to help his team get back to winning ways in the title race.
On the chalkboard
Morelos has proven to be such a big asset as a lone striker when he has been on the pitch for Rangers this season, and his 38-year-old boss will be so frustrated that he won’t have him available for what is now another big game this weekend.
The Liverpool legend is unlikely to switch away from the 4-3-3 system that has generally proved to be so fruitful this term, and that means he has a choice between Kyle Lafferty and loanee Umar Sadiq to play the centre-forward role, with neither of the summer arrivals particularly impressing so far this season.
Big chance for Lafferty
Given how little of an impact Sadiq has made and with Gerrard claiming earlier this week that he feels he only has two ‘recognised strikers’ available to him in Morelos and Lafferty, the latter looks set to get the nod on Sunday.
The 6ft 4in man has previously revealed his frustration at his lack of minutes following a seven-figure move from Hearts in the summer, and the 31-year-old has five goals in 22 appearances in total – although the majority of those outings have come from the substitutes’ bench.
Now with Gerrard having preferred Morelos over him previously, he has the perfect opportunity to prove that he should be a regular in the starting XI instead moving forward.
